Terms of Use

By using docstomarkdown.com (the “Service”) you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with them, do not use the Service. The Service is operated by Docs To Markdown (“we”, “us”, the “Operator”).

How we handle data is described separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

The Service converts documents you upload — including PDF, DOCX, HTML, EPUB, CSV, XLSX, RTF, ODT, PPTX, TXT and Markdown files — into Markdown, and returns the result in your browser or, for the API, as a JSON response. Conversion is automated and deterministic: the same input produces the same output.

The Service is provided free of charge, without registration, and is subject to technical limits, currently a maximum upload size of 4 MB per file. We may change these limits at any time.

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you use it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms on that organisation’s behalf.

You keep everything. You retain all rights in the documents you upload and in the Markdown produced from them. We claim no ownership of your content.

You grant us only the narrow, revocable, royalty-free licence needed to receive, parse and convert your file and return the result to you. That licence lasts only for the duration of the request. We do not store your files, do not use them to train models, and do not disclose them to anyone.

By uploading a file you confirm that:

• —you own the file or otherwise have the rights and permissions needed to upload and convert it;
• —doing so does not infringe anyone's intellectual property, confidentiality or privacy rights; and
• —the file does not contain material that is unlawful in your jurisdiction or ours.

You agree not to:

• —upload content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or that you have no right to process;
• —upload malware, exploit payloads, or files crafted to attack the Service, its parsers or other users;
• —attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its infrastructure or any data other than your own;
• —probe, scan, overload, flood or otherwise disrupt the Service, or circumvent the file-size limit, rate limits or any other technical restriction;
• —use automated means to place an unreasonable load on the Service, or resell access to it as if it were your own infrastructure;
• —reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source of the Service, except to the extent that mandatory law expressly permits it.

We may suspend or block access — including by IP address — where we reasonably believe these rules are being broken or the stability or security of the Service is at risk.

The conversion API documented on the API page is subject to these same terms. It is offered on a fair-use basis: we may apply rate limits, quotas or other controls, and may change or withdraw endpoints without notice. Build in sensible error handling and retries; do not treat the API as a guaranteed dependency of a production system without your own fallback.

The Service is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee that it will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, and we give no service level commitment. We may modify, suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service, including any supported format, at any time.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

Document conversion is inherently lossy: complex layouts, embedded objects, scanned images and unusual encodings may not convert faithfully. We do not warrant that the Markdown output is accurate, complete or suitable for your purposes. Always check the output before relying on it, and keep your original file.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for loss of data, loss of profits, loss of business or loss of goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service is limited to EUR 100.

If you use the Service other than as a consumer, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these terms or from content you uploaded in violation of section 04 or 05.

The Service — including its conversion pipeline, source code, design, text and logo — belongs to the Operator and is protected by intellectual property law. These terms grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service as intended, and nothing more. The Markdown output generated from your own document is yours, as set out in section 04.

The Service relies on third-party infrastructure and on open-source parsing libraries, and the site links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for third-party services or the content of external sites, and their own terms apply to your use of them.

We may amend these terms as the Service develops or the law requires. The date shown at the top of this page indicates the current version. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the amended terms; if you do not accept them, stop using the Service.

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of the European Union and of the EU member state in which the Operator is established, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

If you are a consumer resident in the EU, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your own country of residence, and you may bring proceedings before the courts of that country. For all other users, the courts at the Operator’s place of establishment have exclusive jurisdiction.

If a provision of these terms is or becomes invalid, the remaining provisions stay in force and the invalid provision is replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its purpose. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign your rights under these terms; we may assign ours in connection with a transfer of the Service, provided your rights are not reduced. Together with the Privacy Policy, these terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
